GMC Kathua Organises Yoga Session under Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign

Kathua, August 14, 2026: As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign, Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua organised a Yoga Session at 9:00 AM on August 14, 2026, with enthusiastic participation from faculty members, officers and staff. The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of the Principal, GMC Kathua, Dr. Sh. Surinder Kumar Atri. The Yoga Session was organised with the active participation of the Department of AYUSH, represented by Dr. Deepak Sharma, Dr. Madhvi Gupta, Sh. Romy Kumar, Yoga Instructor, Sh. Suresh Kumar and Smt. Asha Rani. Officers, faculty members and staff of GMC Kathua also participated enthusiastically in the session. From GMC Kathua, Dr. Yangchen Dolma, HOD Community Medicine; Sh. Mehar Chand, Chief Accounts Officer; Deputy Directors Sh. Mahesh Kumar and Sh. Sardar Singh; and Administrative Officer Sh. Pankaj Kumar (JKAS), along with other faculty members and staff, participated in the session. The Yoga session was conducted by Dr. Deepak Sharma as per the prescribed procedures. He highlighted the importance of Yoga in maintaining a fit and healthy body and encouraged the participants to incorporate Yoga into their daily routine. Dr. Yangchen Dolma also enlightened the participants about the physical and mental benefits of Yoga, while Dr. Javeed Iqbal, Faculty, Homeopathy, conveyed the message of adopting healthy practices and making Yoga a part of everyday life. Speaking on the occasion, Administrative Officer, GMC Kathua, Sh. Pankaj Kumar (JKAS) said that the Yoga Session was organised under the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign to promote the spirit of patriotism, unity and healthy living. He stated that similar activities would be organised at regular intervals to encourage wider participation of the GMC community. He also highlighted the significance of Independence Day and the patriotic spirit associated with “Vande Mataram”, urging everyone to actively participate in national events and celebrations. The programme concluded with a message of health, unity, patriotism and active participation in the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma inaugurated the district-level ‘Har Ghar Tiranga–Vande Mataram’ campaign at Auditorium Hall, GMC Kathua, marking the commencement of the twin campaign being observed from August 9 to 17. The inaugural programme aimed to promote patriotism and national pride besides sensitising the younger generation about India’s freedom struggle and the significance of national symbols. Students delivered presentations on the historical evolution of Vande Mataram, the National Flag Code and the National Anthem, highlighting their role in fostering national unity and identity. Speaking on the occasion, the DC said Vande Mataram remains deeply associated with India’s freedom struggle and continues to inspire patriotism and national awakening. He said the commemoration of its 150th anniversary provides an opportunity to recall the sacrifices and ideals that shaped the nation’s journey to freedom. The DC said the freedom enjoyed today is the result of the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and urged the younger generation to remember their contribution and uphold the values for which they fought. Highlighting the significance of the Tricolour, he said the National Flag symbolises the unity, sovereignty, dignity and aspirations of the nation. He called upon students, youth, educational institutions, civil society organisations and the general public to participate actively in the campaign and celebrate it with patriotic fervour. The programme concluded with mass recitation of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the National Anthem, followed by an appeal to the people to uphold the dignity of the National Flag and remember with gratitude the sacrifices made for India’s freedom.
